Myanmar Tachileik To Monglar

Group ride to Monglar in Myanmar, did this ride a couple of years back as part of the Tachileik bike week but huge groups and no time to stop, this time a small group traveling at our own pace.

Golden Cherry Hotel was the first nights stop over, interesting signs displayed.

Front lobby area, the staff are great.

Group shot including our police escort guy out of Tachileik.

Some Chinese variant.

Views from the hotel of an expanding Tachileik town.

The route is 171 km to Khaeng Thung and paved the whole way and we had no problems

We arrived in good time and checked into the Amazing Hotel.

This is a beautiful old town and very friendly people, views from the hotel.

Time for a walk around town and see some of the faces.

Local tea.

This chap making the local chewing herbal packs.

The main focal point of the town in the large lake, with many restaurants.

Former Princes residence.

Me caught scouting around.

Perfect looking 2 stroke.

Doubt this would pass UK safety standards.

Local money changer, see the stacks of cash on the floor.

After a relaxing night, next morning underway to darker skies.

Doby wall to this small village.

The route to Monglar is only 130 or km so planty of time for view stops.

Mid day lunch i would rather forget.

Francis trying the local bong.

The road is pretty in broken in places.

Arriving in Monglar, totally different from what we had seen, clearly this is a gambling town.

The local market is well know for selling endangered animals they made it clear they did not want any pictures in these areas.

We found the Sky bar, owned by an army chief who owned most of the town.

The next morning was an early wet start and non stop ride back to Tachileik and exit back to Thailand.
