The Big Dipper Loop

The rainy season has been a little heavier than usual so far this year causing lot's of localised flooding, so a break in the weather was an opportunity to get out on the road.

Decided to do the Big Dipper loop, always a nice ride up in the mountains around Phu Chi Fah.

Leaving town rice fields as green as can be after the rains.

Resourceful Thai's making restaurants from scrap wood.

Leaving the boring section of the 1155 and turning to Wiang Kaen and views of the Mekong.

Nice new resort with great views of the river.

The Mekong for once showing high water.

In Wiang Kaen we noticed this government initiative programme teaching farmers to collect rubber latex.

Teachers looking on.

Turn for Phu Chi Dao.

We didn't plan on riding to Phu Chi Fah, but thought we would see if the link road at Huay Khu was now paved to connect the the 1093, it was not !

Time to double back and enjoy the views.

The Big Dipper, snaking up the mountain, an incredible road.

Next stop Phayapipak Forest park, under going some modernizations in readiness for the high season.

Spectacular views, a great camping spot.

Some fantastic roads on the way home, blessed with dry roads.

More of the stunning views in the area.

A great ride only 270 km, but one of the nicest parts of Northern Thailand on our doorstep.
