Laos Vientiane To Long Cheng LS 20A

VTE to long cheng

We awoke the next morning with sore heads (some more than others) and made ready to ride to Long Cheng for Steve and Sergio it would be there first visit and would be interesting to see what they made of the place.

Decided on a slightly different approach rather than heading directly north from Thabok and decided to go via Nam Mang 3 Hydro project and meeting up at the army checkpoint on route south of Phu Bia mine. Please note THIS IS NOT a big bike route it's extremely rocky in many areas and even the little CRF's bottomed out on several sections.

You can see the elevation picks up pretty quickly on the 262 km route.

On the way we stopped off to take a peak and the parked up commercial aircraft.

Chopper fly past, presumably for the Pathet anniversary

Soon into the countryside.

The dam area.

Nicely graded up to the Nam Mang 3.

Then a sudden welcome change in topography.

Steve in his element.

Possibly one of the best trails ive ridden in Laos.

Riding the dam wall.

After a short delay getting the staff to unlock the dam wall gate it was back to the almost riverbed style trail.

Logging camp debris.

No idea what this was constructed for.

Soon onto paved road and a short break, kid's playing with more basic toy's.

Steve dishing out more toy's for the kids.

Onto the faster graded stuff near Phu Bia.

Reaching Long Cheng District.

The final stretch.

Great playground.

Light fading fast we made it.

Made it to the runway for the traditional  must have shot's.

Been a long day only 262 km covered and was time for food and more importantly beer.
