Laos Muang Khua To Nong Khiaw

Total distance 102Km (feels like 202km) to some

Only two riders today Dennis was under the weather and decided to take the paved route.

Did this trail in reverse in a very cold January a couple of years ago but the other way round, was half expecting it to fully be graded but thankfully it’s not.

First stop was friendly Omthap village to hand out some warm gloves and toy’s for the kid’s.

[

Caught lady posing, all the ladies in the village found it very amusing.

From there the teacher of the local school invited us in to see his classroom.

Only eleven kid’s in this village school but it was a lovely learning atmosphere inside.

Outside we gave out some colouring books, pencils and sweets for the kid’s.

Des handed out some balloons and in no time the teacher had organised some games.

Would have been a great place to camp for the night, but we had other plans. Hard to get good shots of the views on this trail as the elephant grass is so tall.

As we descended to the next village the main landmark of this trail looks set to go as a new concrete bridge was in progress.

Des inspecting the now fragile bridge, so the river it was to be.

Des watched as i crossed as you may see it’s pretty rocky and would prove to be a nightmare for Des.

Des making a cautious, maybe too cautious approach.

Seconds after this shot he was laid in the river.

Suitably wet.

We stopped in the next village to dry off and get the kid’s attention once more, more sweets called for..

Opening up now and we could see the view.

Evidence of the rainfall on the slopes.

As we reached lower ground a few more water crossings with no real drama.

Still some damp spots.

Big hole in that one i forgot to warn him…

We reached the last village before the paved section and had a refreshment whilst the ladies tried to sell us some cloth.

Once on the 1C the Nam Ou came into view.

Safely checked into the CT GH, it was beer time.

We watched as a bunch of Chinese appeared, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the building of the building the bridge they apparently worked on.

Wonderful report.
What a treat to be able to get inside of that humble little school.
The pic of old lady with the three little kids is delightful.
